In a racially motivated attack, White 6th graders wrapped a rope from a swing around the neck of a Black girl classmate. The victim’s family is now suing the school for 3 million dollars. What year is this? Seriously.

2. Roses in Concrete School in East Oakland is a part of Tupac’s legacy. [via The Source]
Before Afeni Shakur transitioned to the ancestors, she visited Roses in Concrete School in East Oakland. She gave the school her blessing and said “the school is of Tupac’s legacy,” referencing Tupac’s collection of poetry. The article also includes a music video called “Hope Dealer” by the school’s co-founder Karega Bailey, which features students from the school.

3. Do not use the Orlando shooting to demonize Islam. [via The Intercept]
The shooting in Orlando has created a lot of Islamophobic language as if Islam is inherently homophobic. This is not true, as a 2015 Pew Research study “found that U.S. Muslims were more accepting of homosexuality than evangelical Christians, Mormons, and Jehovah’s Witnesses.” We cannot let this act of bigotry in Orlando create more bigotry.
