Juneteenth celebrates the end of chattel slavery in America, yet it is not a federal holiday like July 4th. Black America’s Independence Day should be a federal holiday too because our history matters and must be commemorated.

4. Millions of Lost NYPD Surveillance Documents of 1960s Radicals Have Been Recovered. [via Democracy Now]
The NYPD claimed to “lose” surveillance documents on 1960s radicals and then all of a sudden found around 1 million records. This was at the heart of the FBI’s COINTELPRO programs that sought to destroy Black radical groups such as the Black Panther Party. We’ll keep an eye on whether these documents will be released to the public or not.
