Detroit Engineer Wants to Turn Buses Into Tech Classrooms

Thomas Phillips, an engineer from Detroit, has posed an idea called “The Aspire Tech Bus” to turn the city’s unused bus fleet into tech labs.

“I want to drive around to different locations in the city and teach web development or other advanced STEM programming concepts to kids in Detroit.”

-Thomas Phillips

In a 16-week course, Phillips wants to teach under-served students how to use HTML, CSS, JavaScript, NodeJS, and ExpressJS.

Thomas Phillips first posed the idea at Hack the Central District Cultural Innovation Conference (Hack the CD) in Seattle. He plans on starting a Kickstarter in the future to raise money and awareness for this program.
